The new Pokemon Go Apple watch app is finally here, after months of waiting. Now that you’re using it, you may be wondering how to best track Pokemon using the app. Here’s what you need to know.

If you want to track Pokemon with your watch, you’ll first need to make sure that the right setting is turned on so you’ll be notified when a Pokemon is nearby.

Under settings, turn on “Pokemon.” Once you turn this setting on, you’ll feel a tap on your wrist whenever a Pokemon is nearby. You’ll also get the following notifications on your app:

At this point, you’ll need to take out your iPhone in order to actually catch the Pokemon.

You can also check the App from time to time to see which Pokemon are nearby:

Reviews about the tracking feature on the Apple watch app are mixed. Some trainers say that all the app does is notify you only about “nearby” Pokemon that would also show in the phone app’s Nearby widget. So it’s not going to help you track down Pokemon at distant Pokestops like the new Nearby tracker on the phone app does. Instead, you’ll only get notified about Pokemon that are practically right next to you. But still, that’s more functionality for tracking than you get with the Pokemon Go Plus.
