‘Pokemon Go’: Evolution Items Now Guaranteed After Seven-Day PokeStop Streak

The latest update to Pokemon Go has made it significantly easier for players to acquire evolution items.

In the update to the game announced on March 21st, players will now receive a random evolution item at the end of a week-long period in which they visit the same PokeStop every day. This seven-day bonus already existed in the game, but previously players only got XP and some regular items from it.

This change addresses a prominent complaint Pokemon Go players have had over the past few weeks: that evolution items are unnecessarily rare. These items, which are required in order to evolve certain Pokemon, can only be obtained randomly by visiting PokeStops, but the drop rate is so low that you can visit hundreds of PokeStops and still never get a single evolution item.

Before this update, there really was nothing players could do in order to increase their chances of getting an evolution item, but now simply getting into the habit of going to a PokeStop every day will guarantee trainers receive at least one item every week.

Niantic does not specify in their patch notes whether evolution items are still given out randomly at the same rate as they were before.

The evolution items in Pokemon Go are Dragon Scale, King’s Rock, Metal Coat, Sun Stone, and Upgrade.
