‘Injustice 2’: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

NetherRealm Studios made sure to develop Mortal Kombat X into one of the most feature rich fighters ever released.

Now that their much appreciated work on that game is complete, they’ve moved on to developing a sequel to their DC Comics themed fighter. Injustice 2 is preparing to introduce everything you’d expect from a full fledged sequel – new characters, a new plotline to play out and new gameplay mechanics. The epic superhero/super villain clashes featured in Injustice: Gods Among Us are set to be even more epic with the power of the PS4 and Xbox One backing them. After spending some time with a demo build of the game, we’ve returned with all the important facts you need to know.

Let’s all get into the spirit of playing big battles between DC Comics’ all-star roster by breaking down Injustice 2’s biggest features.

1. There’s a Much Bigger Threat on the Horizon This Time Around

The main conflict between Batman’s resistance fighters and Superman’s regime came to a head during Injustice: Gods Among Us. High Councilor Superman was finally defeated and his reign of terrifying rule came to an end. Five years after the fall of a once great superhero, Batman and his allies seek to repair the broken fragments of society left in Superman’s wake.

This mission is beyond complicated due to the casualties of the 1st game’s struggle and those who still side with Superman and his ideologies. Two new problems arise during this time of rebuilding – the rise of a new group called The Society who want to rule the world by any means necessary and the looming threat of Braniac. Injustice 2’s story mode plays similarly to the 1st game’s, which means you’ll follow epic story sequences that segue right into playable battles.

2. The Most Important Addition to the Game is the Gear System

Injustice 2 Gear System

Injustice 2 retains some of the best mechanics from the 1st game – environmental interactions, clashes, character abilities, super moves and stage transitions. But the biggest feature that this sequel will be defined by is its Gear System. As you complete fights, your chosen character will unlock all types of equipment that changes their overall stats and appearance. You’ll be able to change a character’s head, torso, arms, and legs with new gear, provide them an accessory and give them two special abilities. Certain pieces of gear also alter the properties of a character’s special moves as well. The base stats for each character that can be altered by new gear are strength, defense, health and ability (special attacks). Each character can have up to five gear loadouts that can can be switched before a battle.

Injustice 2 Shaders

The type of gear you can unlock comes in three forms – equipment, shaders and abilities. Shaders can change the overall color scheme of a character’s costume. If you want a better chance at unlocking rare gear from loot crates, you can use Injustice 2’s in-game currency to purchase “Mother Boxes.” As for purchasing cosmetic adjustments for any character, that can be done through the game’s microtransaction system (“Source Crystals”). Source Crystals can be applied to the purchase of “Transform Gear,” a feature that lets you copy the the appearance of piece of gear to another. Source Crystals also play a part in leveling up any of your characters to their maximum level. Injustice 2’s microtransactions will only be applied to the purchase of cosmetic alterations for the entire roster. The trailer posted below gives a better visual summary of the game’s expansive gear system.

3. A Collection of DC’s Best are Getting Added to the Already Massive Roster
