‘Prey’: How to Use the Fabricator and Recycler to Craft Items

Prey

(Bethesda)

Crafting items such as weapons, ammo, and consumables is a bit of an involved process that requires you to head to different machines around Talos-I. Read this hand guide to find out how to craft items.

The two machines you need to head to are recyclers and fabricators. Recyclers convert your junk into materials and fabricators turn materials into usable items. The machines are located all around Talos-I but both machines can be found in your office on the second floor of the lobby towards the back and right.

In order to craft items, you need materials. Materials are derived from garbage and other items, so start collecting things. Take note of the “Material Yield” the items you collect, which can be checked by going into your inventory and highlighting the object. The higher the material yield, the more materials you acquire. So get rid of items with low material yield so you can save room for items with higher yield.

Once you have a nice collection of junk, head to the recycler. Head to the left part of the machine and down to the recycler bin. Select it and transfer the desired items to the machine. Then exit out of the menu and hit the recycle button in front of the machine. The materials will appear in the bin on the right side of the machine. Side note: you can learn a skill that gives you more materials from the recycler.

There are four kinds of material: organic, synthetic, mineral, and exotic. Exotic materials are especially important as they are ingredients for crafting Neuromods to upgrade your abilities.

Once you have your items, head to the fabricator. Hit “Start” on the panel and select your crafting recipe. You’ll need to find the crafting recipe for items before you can make them. Notable recipes include medikits in the med bay of the second floor of the atrium in the Hardware Labs and the Huntress Boltcaster and ammo on top of the caged area in the corner of the machine shop of the Hardware Labs. Hit “place crafting ingredients in slots” to add the required materials. Then just hit “create” and you now have your item!
