‘Tekken 7’: Everything We Know About The PC Version

Tekken 7

Tekken 7 releases during the beginning of the next month and its release will mark the first time in Tekken’s 22 year history that a title has appear on the PC platform. Street Fighter X Tekken was released on PC but we’re not going to count that as a mainline title. Here’s a fun fact: Akuma will now have been on both Tekken titles on PC.

The newest title in the Tekken series will feature full controller support, local and online multiplayer and a full list of Steam achievements on the PC. It doesn’t look like any corners are being cut with this title. Unfortunately, cross-play is not available between PC and consoles so the PC will need a strong player base to stay alive. PS4 will be fine but we aren’t sure we will be able to say the same thing about the PC a year from now.

Tekken 7 is powered by the Unreal Engine 4 which will push the game’s visuals and performance to the highest they’ve ever been. Let’s take a look at the minimum and recommended specs and break them down.

Tekken 7 Minimum System Requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Core Intel Core i3-4160 @ 3.60GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 660 or 750 Ti, or equivalent
  • RAM: 6GB
  • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 (64-bit versions)
  • HDD: 60GB free space
  • DirectX: Version 11

Tekken 7 Recommended System Requirements:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5 GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1060, or equivalent, or higher
  • RAM: 8GB
  • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 (64-bit versions)
  • HDD: 60GB free space
  • DirectX: Version 11

Looking at the minimum specs first, you’ll see that you don’t need a powerhouse PC at all to play this game. The game is on the larger side of things so you will need at least 60GB of free space on your hard drive to get this installed. A fourth-generation i3 processor is much lower than we expected with this title since more and more games are requiring more cores with their titles. Fighting games usually target 60 FPS so it looks like this i3 should be good enough to hit that mark, provided you turn down a few graphics settings. Recommending a GTX 660 or 750 Ti as the minimum GPU is a surprising thing to see in 2017 since both those cards have become increasingly long in the tooth over the years. You aren’t required how have Windows 10 for this title.

If we move to the recommended specs, you’ll see the CPU jumps from a fourth-generation i3 to a fourth-generation i5, which is a smaller leap than we’d expect. The real jump comes from the GPU, recommending a GTX 1060 from the 660 and 750 Ti. The GTX 1060 should be able to get the job done in both 1080p and 1440p, two very popular gaming resolutions on PC. We’d like to assume an RX 480 or 580 will also work in this situation as the cards are similar to the GTX 1060.

Nvidia went even further and tested what you would need to bring the game into 4K resolution while also sporting a solid 60 FPS. Not surprisingly, they recommend their newest flagship card, the GTX 1080 Ti. You might be able to squeak by with the i5, even at 4K, since upping the resolution will shift a lot of the work from the CPU to the GPU. Obviously, these settings will be able to be reached with other hardware. Tekken 7 features a “Dynamic Adjustment” setting which will raise and lower different settings to ensure you get a smooth, consistent 60 FPS while playing.

Nvidia has prepared a game ready driver that will give you the absolute best performance you can have with Tekken 7 on day one with their cards. You can search for and download it here. AMD hasn’t announced anything on their end regarding a new driver but it is likely coming.

Here is a video of Tekken 7 running in 4K. Although they recommend a 1080 Ti for 4K, this video shows great performance can still be found on the slighty older, but still great, GTX 1080.
