There was a slew of announcements during today’s PC Gaming Show at E3 2017 but one of the biggest ones is the news of an Age of Empire remaster.

The trailer comes out of the gate featuring the trademark “WOLOLO” and we knew right away we were in for something special. You can sign up right now for the beta at the official Age of Empires website.

Age of Empires is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, hard to believe it’s that old. Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will feature fully remastered 4K visuals and new zoom levels so you can see a ton of the action. Features that have been added into the series such as the “Idle Villager” button are being put into this game to make the controls feel less dated.

The game will feature Xbox Live multiplayer which likely means the title will be coming to the Windows 10 Store instead of Steam, even though Age of Empires II: HD Edition is on Steam. There is no word on an Xbox One version, but it seems unlikely due to the scale of this RTS, this definitely isn’t Halo Wars. The game will also featured a fully remastered soundtrack to go along with the updated visuals and gameplay elements.

This will mark the first time we will be able to play Age of Empires 1 without using a CD-ROM, which is a success all in itself. The beta begins later this year and signup has already begun. More Age of Empires announcements have been teased later this year, including another at this year’s GamesCom. This could be the Age of Empires 4 announcement we have all been waiting so long for.

Nevertheless, this Age of Empires: Definitive Edition announcement is more than enough to hold us over until then. For now, you can watch the official announcement trailer below. Let us know what you think in the comments.
