‘ARMS’: How to Unlock the Ranked Mode

ARMS, ARMS Global Test, ARMS Global Testfire

(Nintendo)

ARMS is the newest game from Nintendo and it’s looking to deliver a plethora of fast-paced, chaotic action. While there are a lot of game modes in ARMS, undoubtedly the most competitive is the Ranked Mode which is not unlocked from the start of the game. This is a 1v1 game type that pits players against each other in order to prove who is best and raise your rank. The more wins you obtain the higher your rank goes, but you will also be penalized if you lose so it’s key that you’re ready for these fights.

In order to unlock Ranked Mode players will need to complete the Grand Prix Mode on the difficulty setting 4 or higher. Doing so will instantly unlock this mode and allow players to try out the Ranked section of ARMS. It doesn’t matter how many attempts to do, times you lose, or if you walk away and come back to it. All that matters is that you finish Grand Prix on difficulty 4 or greater if you want to go test your skills. Thankfully, this mode is not terribly difficult, but it will certainly test your knowledge of the game’s fundamentals.

If you are having trouble with this mode just try to bait your opponent’s attacks, dodge, and then strike them. This is a fairly repeatable formula for most of the fights if you are looking for an easy way to win. However, it would behoove you to practice combos and understanding the physics of ARMS if you plan on going into Ranked. Like any fighting game, you will want to master a specific character and have a general understanding of how the other fighters work.

Going into a Ranked Game with only basic knowledge will surely cause you to lose, so practice, practice, practice before going online. ARMS is a very deep fighting game, so you’ll want to understand virtually every aspect of the game before you begin.
