‘Metroid: Samus Returns’: Special Edition Contents

Metroid Samus Returns

Nintendo announced not only Metroid Prime 4, but a remake of Metroid 2 as well, during their E3 presentation this week.

Metroid: Samus Returns is a complete remake of the 1991 title, Metroid 2, which was originally released on the Game Boy. The game features the ability to aim in every direction, instead of just 45-degree angles, and also includes many more modern changes. Having a map showing on screen at all times is a big addition which will help many players from getting lost. The story remains unchanged, so don’t go into this expecting a whole new story or anything like that.

But, enough about the gameplay, let’s get down to business. Metroid: Samus Returns is releasing a $50 Special Edition that will get you the base game and a couple extra items.

Metroid: Samus Returns Special Edition

The Special Edition includes a physical copy of the game, a sound-selection CD featuring 25 tracks from across the Metroid franchise and a reversible title-sheet insert for the game case. It’s worth nothing that Samus Returns includes two of the composers from Super Metroid, so if you’re a fan of the soundtrack of that title, you’ll likely enjoy this one as well.

This isn’t one of the more robust collector’s editions we have seen, but there’s still a lot to like if you are a Metroid fan. The franchise has always had a nice soundtrack so it’ll be nice to have them all in one easily accessible spot. If you’re an amiibo collector, the game is also releasing two new figures – Samus Aran and Metroid – which will be coming out alongside the game. Those two amiibo, plus the Zero Suit Samus and Samus amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series, will also have functionality in the game. We don’t know what that functionality is yet but we will let you know as soon as we find out.

Our European friends get much more robust collector’s edition.
