Doomfist is perhaps one of the most hyped and intriguing characters to be introduced into developer Blizzard’s Overwatch. While this character has been teased since the game’s launch last year, it was only until recently that players finally got their hands on him. Despite being in the PTR (Public Test Realm) for some time now, he has still not been officially launched. Thankfully, we now know when to fully expect this hero to arrive not only on PC, but on consoles.
Doomfist will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox July 27, however, no exact time was given. We also got a new hero preview video from Blizzard that dives not only into the origin of the hero, but his realization as a playable character. The long delay from his initial release on the PTR to a finalized version lies in how complex and completely dangerous his kit is. Doomfist is fully capable of instantly killing a hero like Reaper and can almost out maneuver characters like Genji, Pharah, and Tracer. This makes him exceptionally hard to balance since he can completely shape a game if played correctly.
Despite having some counters already existing in-game, Doomfist has already received a nerf to his Rocket Fist range. There are also a number of other changes players can most likely expect to come when he releases, as McCree, Zarya, Reaper, and Reinhardt are getting noticeable buffs to their kit. The most intriguing out of these changes is that Zarya’s Graviton Surge effectively becomes inescapable by mobility skills. This will not only allow her to secure more kills, but stop trouble targets like Mercy from simply flying away. Reinhardt is also getting a complete overhaul to his kit after the numerous complaints made about how buggy and ineffective it is in the current meta.
If you are looking to play Doomfist then you won’t have to wait much longer until this powerful villain’s arrival.
