UPDATE: Niantic has officially announced the Pokemon Go anniversary event, and it will indeed begin at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. However, it will actually last for longer than was originally reported, ending on July 24th, not July 13th.
An anniversary event is reportedly coming to Pokemon Go on Thursday, July 6th. What time will it begin?
Although Niantic has not officially announced this yet, it’s a safe bet that the anniversary event will begin today at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. After all, virtually every single event that Niantic has ever held in Pokemon Go began at that exact time (with one or two exceptions, like the Valentine’s Day event which began at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time). That’s 4:00 p.m. for those who live on the East Coast. If you live in another time zone, you can use this website to figure out what time that is for you.
Technically, Niantic has not even announced this event yet. But Eurogamer and Serebii are now reporting on it, and so presumably Niantic will get a post up about it any moment now.
If 1:00 p.m. seems pretty soon for the event to begin when no announcement has even been made, keep in mind that this is not unprecedented. With the Water Festival event back in March, Niantic made the announcement at 8:02 a.m. Pacific Time, and the event began at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
According to Serebii, the Pokemon Go anniversary event will start on July 6th and last for one week, concluding on Thursday, July 13th. It is likely that the event will wrap up at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time that day.
The Pokemon Go anniversary event is said to involve the release of a special Pikachu wearing Ash’s cap from the Pokemon TV series. An Anniversary Box will also go on sale in the store; this will feature Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls and a Raid Pass.
Fans of Pokemon Go have generally expressed disappointment with this event, as they were hoping for something that involved double XP or Stardust. However, there’s still plenty to look forward to in Pokemon Go this month, including the forthcoming release of legendary Pokemon, speculated to happen in a few weeks around the time of July 22nd’s Pokemon Go Fest Chicago. The legendary Pokemon are expected to be released via Raid Battles, with these Pokemon being categorized as the fifth Raid Boss tier.
In addition, more updates to the gym system are on the way, as Niantic CEO John Hanke revealed in a recent interview with The Verge.
