Legendary Raid Battles are coming to Pokemon Go, Niantic announced on Thursday. But some players already struggle to make it through tier four Raid Battles, so will defeating legendary Pokemon even be realistic for them? How difficult will legendary Raid Battles be?
In the trailer for legendaries that was released on Thursday, players are seen fighting Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno, Ho-Oh, and Lugia, and their CP is actually not that much higher than the CP of tier four Pokemon. Here are the stats of the legendary Pokemon we see in the trailer:
- Moltres: 28,000 CP
- Zapdos: 29,000 CP
- Articuno: 30,000 CP
- Ho-Oh: 32,000 CP
- Lugia: 35,0000 CP
For comparison, the CP of Tier 4 Raid Bosses ranges from about 22,000 to 35,000, meaning the legendaries would actually fit right into the fourth tier. However, the legendaries do have unique moves that will make fighting them a lot different than fighting in a Tier 4 Raid Battle. Some of them like Lugia also have much higher defense than the Pokemon that make up the fourth tier.
It isn’t necessarily a guarantee that the CP we see in the launch video will be the same as the CP of the actual Pokemon when they are released as Raid Bosses, though, but this is the information we have to work with right now. A lot of players were surprised to see these numbers, thinking the legendaries would have CPs closer to 50,000 or even 100,000.
Also worth considering when evaluating how difficult a legendary Raid Battle will be is the fact that in theory, these will attract a much larger group of players than a battle at a lower tier. After all, players have 48 hours’ notice before a legendary raid Battle, and so a large crowd has a chance to gather, therefore making it much easier to take down the Pokemon.
The first legendary Pokemon will appear after Pokemon Go Fest Chicago this weekend.
