Agents of Mayhem is full of unique and intriguing mechanics, however, the clear stand out is the agent swapping ability. This allows users to switch between three separate agents at any time while they are out completing missions or exploring Seoul, South Korea. There is a total of 12 different agents, each with their own special weapons and skills that allow them to cause havoc against the forces of Legion. However, all of these characters are not unlocked from the start of the game, meaning you will need to obtain them as you play if you want to expand your roster.
Some are unlocked through side missions while others will just be given to you via playing through the main campaign. Players will thankfully have three starting heroes out as well, so if you really want to it’s possible to go through all of Agents of Mayhem without ever swapping. Here are the 12 heroes and how to unlock them:
Given at the Start:
Earned During the Campaign:
Earned During Side Missions:
- Red Card
For the side mission based agents, you will have access to Yeti, Rama, and Braddock after you are free to explore Seoul and complete missions. Every Agent Operation is split into two missions, with the first focusing around your main team and the second being a special single agent chapter that acts as a tutorial for that hero. You must complete both missions that hero will be unlocked and you can take them out into the field whenever you choose.
The remaining four (Oni, Joule, Kingpin, and Red Card) will become available to unlock after you officially defeat Hammersmith. Both Daisy and Scheherazade will be obtained simply by playing through the main campaign itself and are impossible to miss. If you want to select an Agent Operation just go back to The Ark, select which of the agents you want to obtain, and then the game will instantly mark that as your main mission when you load up into Seoul.
We recommend finishing all of the Agent Operations as soon as possible since this will give you far more options when you are playing. Keep in mind, some main campaign levels actually require you to have specific traits that can only be found on certain heroes like Joule, Yeti, and Fortune. There is no downside to unlocking them early, so this should be one of the first things you take care of in Agents of Mayhem.
