Breath of the Wild: Tips of the Wild: What Is It?

The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild

The latest The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild patch released yesterday and it fixed glitches with the Trial of the Sword mode, various bugs, and it also mentioned something called Tips of the Wild.

Update: It’s in the game now. You have to click on the news section on the homepage of your Nintendo Switch and you can read the first article there.

From the patch notes, here’s what it says about Tips of the Wild:

  • In-game items can now be obtained from launching the software from certain articles distributed through a new News channel (“The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Tips from the Wild”) which can be accessed through News on the Home menu. This channel is expected to open on 8/9/2017. Depending on your game progress and location, certain items may not be obtainable.

  • It’s pretty vague but from what we’re gathering, it will be a way to get new items while also learning how to play the game. It does seem a bit odd to see something like this appear in patch notes five months after the release of the game but that’s another story for a different day.

It’s likely that we’ll see an addition to the home menu screen like we did we the most recent DLC pack and the addition of Master Mode. What is unclear is how the new option will work in the game. Of course, all of our answers will be answered tomorrow but right now it sounds like we’re reading articles and buying gear.

It’s also unclear what or where these articles will come from. Breath of the Wild was a very hyped game and as a result, many websites wrote guides, tips, etc. about the game. There’s a lot of information already floating around out there so Nintendo may not be able to deliver fresh tips if they end up writing their own.

At the very least, it’s always good news to see new content coming to games, especially five months after their initial release. We’ll update this post tomorrow once the update officially rolls out. Keep in mind that Tips of the Wild will not be available on the Wii U version of the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be receiving the second part of its Expansion Pass later this year and it is called Champion’s Ballad. A new line of amiibo is also coming to the game and they’re all based on the champions found in Breath of the Wild. We don’t yet know what function they will have in the game but we will let you know as soon as we find out.
