Overwatch Introduces Deathmatch to Arcade Mode

Overwatch

One of the bigger additions to Overwatch has the been the addition of the Arcade Mode. Coming soon to the arcade mode, and actually playable in the PTR right now, is the new Deathmatch game mode.

There are two main ways players will be playing this mode and the first one is a free-for-all mode that allows you choose any hero you would like. This means players won’t rage at you for being Hanzo or Widowmaker all the time. Being in the top half of the FFA mode will credit the player with a win which will count toward getting loot boxes in Arcade Mode. The first player to reach 20 kills in the mode will officially be declared the winner.

The second mode is the introduction of Team Deathmatch which is a 6 vs. 6 and the first to 30 kills win. Ultimates will operate a little differently with this mode such as Mercy’s resurrection ability will actually take kills away from the other team. If you are prone to falling off the map then you will end up costing your team a point each time you do this. This mode will pretty much operate the same way as the normal game modes except there’s no objective other than killing.

Many of the existing maps will be modified to work better with a free-for-all mode and Overwatch is also introducing a brand new map called Château Guillard for the game mode. The patch notes give a good description of what to expect from the new map.

Château Guillard is located near Annecy in southeastern France. For hundreds of years, it was the estate of the influential Guillard family, until it gradually fell into disrepair after the family’s power waned in the decades after the Revolution. Recently, the château has found a new owner: the Talon agent Widowmaker, who has returned to her family’s ancestral home.

Here’s the list of maps being used for the Deathmatch modes:

  • Hanamura
  • Horizon Lunar Colony
  • Temple of Anubis
  • Volskaya Industries
  • Dorado
  • Eichenwalde
  • Hollywood
  • King’s Row
  • (TDM only) Black Forest
  • (TDM only) Castillo
  • (TDM only) Ecopoint: Antarctica
  • (TDM only) Necropolis

The Deathmatch modes are live in the PTR right now and we’ll see them enter the official game at a later date. You can check out the video announcing the update below.
