Overwatch: When Does Competitive Season 6 Start?

Overwatch Doomfist

With Season 5 almost finished, players are already gearing up for the next competitive season of Overwatch. The current season is set to end on August 28, but if you are looking to start fresh then you won’t have to wait long. Overwatch Competitive Season 6 is set to begin on August 31 at 5:00 p.m. PDT / 8:00 p.m. EDT. While we don’t know what some of the rewards are for Season 6 we can assume that the competitive point payout will be the same. Here are how competitive points you will earn at the end of Season 6:

SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP
SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP
SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP
SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP
SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP
SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP
SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP

However, what will be interesting to see is if this competitive season manages to fixes the problems of Season 5. Many prominent community members have noted the sheer toxicity that has taken over this mode, as many matches feature one trick players, throwers, abusive users, and people trolling for fun. This has made playing competitive, even at higher ranks, an unpleasant experience for many.

Even though developer Blizzard has implemented a stricter punishment system for PC players, users on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are currently without a means to report any problems. Since they have been working on this system for some time it’s possible we could see a reporting system for consoles by the time Season 6 launches.

Another change we could see when Season 6 starts are the various hero balances that are currently in the PTR (Public Test Realm). Characters like Junkrat, Widowmaker, and Roadhog have all received considerable buffs such as Junkrat carrying two mines, Road hog being able to heal on the go, and Widowmaker’s Venom Mine revealing targets when triggered. Finally, the new Arcade mode Deathmatch is currently in testing along with a new map specifically for this game type.

Overwatch Season 6 starts on August 31, 5:00 p.m. PDT / 8:00 p.m. EDT.
