WATCH: Overwatch’s Junkertown Trailer Is Absolutely Insane

Junkertown Overwatch

Blizzard

The newest map for the hit FPS (First Person Shooter) Overwatch has gotten two new trailers that show off not only the map, but the backstory behind it. Called “Junkertown,” this level is set in Australian Outback and tasks players with escorting a payload full of treasure. This makes it the first full escort map to come to Overwatch, as the other payload focused map, Eichenwalde, is actually classified as a Hybrid level.

In the first trailer we get a good idea of the layout of the level, as it offers a lot of side streets and buildings for people to take cover in. When can clearly see that one of the spawn rooms is a massive gold filled vault and another is a tattoo parlor. The unique set piece appears to be a slow moving, horizontal fan that allows players to ride on the blades. This will certainly create some cheeky moments with ultimates like Deadeye or Tactical Visor.

Here is the official description of Junkertown by Blizzard:

Junkertown is an Escort map located in the harsh and unforgiving Australian Outback. Constructed from the remains of a destroyed omnium, it’s now the home to a band of lawless scavengers known as the Junkers, led by their cutthroat Queen. When they aren’t pillaging the omnium’s skeleton for anything of value, the Junkers blow off steam in the Scrapyard—a massive gladiatorial arena whose combatants fight for glory, riches…and to survive.

The other trailer is an animated short that focuses on the former Junkertown residents Roadhog and Junkrat who are trying to get back at the town’s queen. These two have always been fan favorites, so it’s nice to see them interact beyond the one comic book they were given. However, compared to other animated shorts like The Last Bastion, the animation quality doesn’t appear the same. While the writing and voice acting is fantastic, visually this preview was not as impressive as others. Though it is cool to learn that the shark and scarecrow outfits were actually disguises that the two criminals use.

There is no official release date for Junkertown, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it hit the PTR (Public Test Realm) soon.
