Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Bethesda Softworks, MachineGames

William “B.J.” Blazkowicz is a legend.

Ever since his introduction in 1992’s Wolfenstein 3D, B.J. has maintained his legendary status by heading into explosive situations against those damned Nazis. Bethesda Games and MachineGames successfully revived the franchise back in 2014 with the release of Wolfenstein: The New Order. The overwhelmingly positive response to that game managed to lead right into a standalone DLC experience (2015’s Wolfenstein: The Old Blood) and an entirely new sequel. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is set to feature everything that made the last two releases so well regarded and place B.J. Blazkowicz back into the spotlight.

Before October 27 gets here, check out this preview piece on everything you need to know about The New Colossus.

1. William J. Blazkowicz Wakes up in 1961 to Take on Some Nazi’s Again

The closing events of The New Order saw B.J. Blazkowicz confronting and finally vanquishing his biggest foe, General Wilhelm “Deathshead” Strasse. Although he accomplished his main mission, a grenade explosion gravely injured B.J and it appeared that he wouldn’t survive his current predicament. Thankfully. B.J. awakes in 1961 within a hospital while confined to a wheelchair. He comes to find out that the Nazis have managed to occupy the USA. B.J. heads back into action against that evil regime alongside a new group of freedom fighters in order to kick off the second American Revolution.

2. The Gameplay Remains Just as Chaotic and Gory as it Was in The New Order

After spending some hands-on time with this much anticipated sequel, I came away pleased knowing that The New Colossus retains a lot of the best elements from The New Order. B.J. still goes on a rampage against Nazis in a variety of famous American locations this time around while wielding several infamous firearms (the LaserKraftWerk and Dieselkraftwerk both come included). Speaking of firearms, players now have the ability to dual wield with a different weapon in each hand. You and your collection of pistols, assault riffles, sniper rifles and more can be called upon to rip your Nazi adversaries to shreds.

It’s still possible to sneak up on your adversaries and take them out quietly. What makes this maneuver all the more violent is the addition of B.J.’s trusty hatchet, which activates vicious takedowns (you can also throw one from a distance and recover it from wherever it landed). Sneaking around is something you’ll need to rely on a lot more now that Commanders are present. These individuals have the ability to call in reinforcements and make your life even more of a living hell.
