CeeLo Green has been making some interesting choices of late. At the Grammy Awards on Sunday, Green flashed a bold new fashion aesthetic that saw him completely covered in gold clothing and face paint. According to XXL, it was the debut of his new “persona”, which he’s dubbed Gnarly Davidson. Now, the former Voice judge (and his alter ego) have somehow upped the ante on the unexpected, by releasing a musical love letter to Beyoncé titled “Jay-Z’s Girl.”

The song takes the instrumental from Rick Springfield’s 1981 classic “Jessie’s Girl” and reworks the lyrics, with lines like “Jay-Z is the king/And I’m probably his biggest fan/But there’s a feeling inside that I’m sure he’d understand/That I’m in love with B, and I want to be her man.” Needless to say, fans are perplexed by the random and, according to MTV, “cringeworthy” cover. It’s also led many to wonder whether the song’s original singer, Springfield, shares in their confusion.

As it turns out, the iconic rocker has given the song his seal of approval. “Fun take on ‘Jessie’s Girl’ by @CeeLoGreen declaring his love for @Beyonce!” Springfield wrote on Twitter. He also took reposted the video on his Facebook page, proving to be one of the few voices who thinks highly of CeeLo’s rendition. But given that he knows what it feels like to “wanna tell her that he loves her,” we cant say we’re all that surprised. Check out Springfield’s original post below.
