It’s the season six finale of Scandal on ABC, and many questions still linger. Will Mellie finally get the inauguration she’s wanted all along? Will one of the show’s most beloved characters meet their end?

Tonight’s episode will focus on Fitz’ last days as president. Last week, viewers saw Olivia Pope do all she could to ensure Millie’s safety. After President-elect Francisco Vargas was killed, Olivia was determined to  protect Mellie and felt particularly concerned about security issues.

The synopsis for tonight’s episode reads: Olivia takes a big risk to ensure Mellie’s safety prior to the inauguration in the first half of this combined episode. In the second half, Fitz uses his power to make some unexpected changes in the final days of his presidency. Producers have described the finale plot as a fight between good and evil. Actress Bellamy Young (who plays Mellie) tells TV Guide, “By the finale, some folks will have become people you couldn’t have imagined they would.”

Young also dished that Quinn will be coming to the rescue in some shape or form. She tells TV Guide, “My favorite finale moment belongs to Quinn.”

In a recent interview with US Weekly, Kerry Washington commented on the announcement that next season would be the last for Scandal. The actress said, “I think we’re all a little sad but also we feel grateful to have the information. Sometimes as an actor you don’t know when you’re going to be out of a job, so it’s nice actually to go into the last season knowing that it’s our last season. We’re already talking about how it’s going to be, like, no-holds-barred, better than ever, no holding punches, putting it all out on the table.”

Scandal’s season 7 ending is not related to its ratings– Shonda Rhimes has been saying for four years now that the show wouldn’t be on the air as long as Rhimes’ other series, Grey’s Anatomy. During that interview, she made it clear the show had a “specific expiration date.” Rhimes’ told NPR, “…I know what the end of Scandal will be, and I feel really good about that. And I can see where the end point is. And I don’t think I’m going to change that. … I know how long I think it will be. But we’ll see.”
