Sobral Defeats Lawler At Strikeforce: Los Angeles

TIM KENNEDY vs. TREVOR PRANGLEY

Round 1:True story — I once mistook Prangley for a very small Josh Barnett. Kennedy wasted no time in going for a clinch, attempting to get the fight to the ground. Prangley was able to keep it standing until Kennedy threw him, but Prangley got back to his feet and kept resisting the takedown. Kennedy stood up and kept the clinch against the cage. Prangley used a throw of his own, but Kennedy immediately got back to his feet and got a slam for the takedown into half guard. Kennedy passed into full mount and postured up to land some punches. Prangley stood up with Kennedy on this back, and Kennedy locked in a rear naked choke. Prangley tapped while standing up, then collapsed to the mat after Kennedy let go. Tim Kennedy d. Trevor Prangley by submission (rear naked choke, round 1)

Ryan Loco: Tim Kennedy is one of the best fighters that a lot of people haven’t heard of. Of course, if I keep saying that, then a lot of people will have heard of him and I can’t use that line anymore. I gotta stop saying that. Plus, it doesn’t help his anonymity clause that he made quick work of Prangley, by subbing him in the first round. Great showing for Mr. Kennedy.

A promo for the June 26th Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum fight is shown. You’ve got to give Showtime credit for producing some amazing promo videos. Werdum is interviewed about the Fedor fight. He’s confident in his training and his skills, and says he’s going to show everybody that he’s the best heavyweight in the world.

The Nokia Theatre has filled up nicely now. Herschel Walker and Dan Henderson are shown on the screen. Walker gets no reaction, while Henderson gets a huge ovation. Funny story: Henderson was stopped by security backstage because he didn’t have a badge. I guess he finally got through.
