No. 2: Georges St. Pierre vs. Carlos Condit, UFC 154
Why: This is an intriguing matchup because St. Pierre is coming off major knee surgery and hasn’t fought since April 2011. Will St. Pierre be the same post knee surgery? Will he suffer from ring rust and can interim champ Carlos Condit take advantage? St. Pierre also has much riding on this fight. Not only is St. Pierre looking to unify the welterweight titles, but also he is potentially in line for a super fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva in 2013.
No. 1: Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos II, UFC 155
Why: There is always a level of mystique with heavyweight title fights in combat sports. Fans love the heavy hitters and Velasquez and Dos Santos are as good as it gets in the UFC. The first matchup was an odd one. Dos Santos caught Velasquez early with a punch to the side of the head in the first round that knocked off Velasquez’s equilibrium. You never really got the chance to see the style clash between the two. Expect a longer and much better fight in the rematch to close out 2012.
