A welterweight bout between “Ultimate Fighter” veterans DaMarques Johnson and Matthew Riddle is in the works for “UFC on Versus 2” in August. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the match, and bout agreements are expected to be distributed shortly.
MMAJunkie.com reported the news this afternoon.
Riddle’s last bout at UFC 111 ended in unfortunate controversy. During the fight, opponent Greg Soto caught Riddle with an illegal upkick that badly hurt the Pennsylvania native. Riddle was ruled unable to continue and ultimately awarded a victory by disqualification. Riddle is a veteran of “The Ultimate Fighter 7.”
Johnson made it to the finals of “The Ultimate Fighter 9,” where he lost via submission to James Wilks. He returned at UFC 107, scoring a victory over Edgar Garcia. He earned a victory in his last fight with a stunning TKO victory over Brad Blackburn at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, a knockout that earned him a big bonus check for Knockout of the Night.
“UFC on Versus 2” takes place Aug. 1 at Salt Lake City’s EnergySolutions Arena.
