WEC 49 Main Card Is Now Official

World Extreme Cagefighting’s first venture over the United States-Canadian border is set for June 20 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the main card is complete.

The main event of the evening will feature a lightweight contender match up between the fast-rising Kamal Shalorus and the former-WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner.

Varner last fought in the Octagon against Benson Henderson, where he lost his lightweight title to the interim-champion. Following the fight, Varner hardly found a kind word to say about the likable Henderson and believes he is very close to another opportunity at the lightweight title.

Shalorus, just two fights into his WEC career, has run through Will Kerr and Dave Jansen to the contender position he now finds himself in. With a third consecutive victory, Shalorus could gain the next title shot in the lightweight division after the WEC 48 championship bout between Henderson and Cerrone.

Also on the card, Chris Horodecki will look to rebound after his debut knockout loss at WEC 45 to Anthony Njokuani against Ed Ratcliff, who is looking for some redemption of his own after a submission loss to Donald Cerrone at the same event.

Furthermore, featherweights Josh Grispi and LC Davis will do battle in a bout between two of the division’s fastest rising fighters, while Mark Hominick and Yves Jabouin will also battle for a top spot in the division’s standings.
