Don King didn’t just succeed in preventing Ricardo Mayorga from making his MMA debut tonight for Shine Fights — he prevented the card from happening at all.
Hours after Mayorga was officially pulled from his main event bout with Din Thomas, the North Carolina Boxing Commission pulled the plug on the entire show. Representatives for both Shine Fights and the NCBC weren’t immediately available for comment.
“Shine Fights: When Worlds Collide” was scheduled to air on pay per view. Don King Productions filed for an injunction to stop Mayorga from competing under the belief that DKP had an exclusive promotional contract with Mayorga for both boxing and mixed martial arts. The injunction was granted on Saturday afternoon, just hours prior to the scheduled start time.
