Del Rosario and Johnson meet in Strikeforce heavyweight tournament reserve contest

A heavyweight tilt between Lavar Johnson and Shane Del Rosario has been added to Strikeforce’s upcoming heavyweight grand prix.

ESPN.com was the first to report the match up.

Johnson, who suffered a gunshot wound back in 2009, returned to action this past March with a technical knockout victory over Lolohea Mahe. He followed up the win with another in October, knocking out Virgil Zwicker in the opening round of their contest. Johnson now holds a record of 15-2 with all wins coming by way of stoppage.

Del Rosario, however, has also become known for his ability to end fights earlier. With a perfect 10-0 record, the heavyweight has only seen the second round one time, as all other victories have come within the first frame. He last fought against the aforementioned Mahe this past July, earning a technical knockout victory in the final 90 seconds of the opening round.

The heavyweight contest is set for East Rutherford, New Jersey on February 12 and will be a reserve bout in the promotion’s heavyweight tournament. The tourney features the likes of Andre Arlovski, Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio Silva, and several others.
