Melvin Guillard, Yves Edwards and Cody McKenzie earned $30,000 bonuses for their in-Octagon performances at Saturday’s “UFC Fight Night 23: UFC Fight for the Troops 2” event in Fort Hood, Texas.
Fight of the Night honors went to Yves Edwards and Cody McKenzie who put on a back and forth battle that ended in Edwards choking the previously undefeated fighter unconscious with a rear naked choke during the second round of their preliminary match up that was featured on the organization’s first time to air bouts online via Facebook. The fight was also shown following the main event on Spike TV.
For the choke finishing submission over McKenzie, Edwards also took home the Submission of the Night bonus money totally an extra $60,000 for Edwards in all on top of his sponsorship money and fight purse.
Hand speed and accuracy allowed Guillard to land a right hand early and drop Dunham with another later, but it was a knee delivered from the clinch that would lead to the end of the fight. After staggering Dunham with the knee, Guillard followed with two more forcing the end of the bout and banking an extra $30,000 in the process.
