Strikeforce amateur bouts are no more

The preliminary card of Strikeforce events from here on out are in for a change.

According to GracieFighter.com, the UFC has informed the San Jose-based promotion that amateur fights will no longer be included in upcoming events.

The news should come as no surprise, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s parent entity Zuffa, LLC purchased Strikeforce earlier this month for an undisclosed figure and immediately went to work with changes. In a media call shortly after the purchase, it was announced that Strikeforce would adhere to the unified rules of the sport, which was the first major change since the deal was made.

Today’s news is yet another example of the UFC’s influence on how the company’s latest acquisition will be run, though, for the moment, it will be run independently.
