Featherweight arrested in death following altercation
Russian news outlets are reporting that Rasul Mirzaev, a fighter currently negotiating with Bellator, was arrested and charged in the death of a 19-year-old college student.
Mirzaev was allegedly involved in an altercation with Ivan Agafonov outside of a Russian night club. The reports state that Mirzaev knocked Agafonov to the ground with a single punch, causing him to hit his head on the pavement and lose consciousness. Agafonov died from the blow days later.
Russian authorities are investigating the incident. If convicted, Mirzaev could face up to 15 years in prison.
Mirzaev debuted as a professional fighter in 2009 and has won five-straight fights in his native country.
