Carano set to return to Strikeforce in December
A return date is set for women’s MMA superstar Gina Carano, as the female fighting superstar is scheduled to return on the Dec. 17 Strikeforce card.
Carano was on fire throughout her first seven professional fights, winning four by stoppage. But when she ran into Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in August of 2009 for the Strikeforce women’s middleweight title, her winning streak came to an abrupt halt.
Since her first loss, Carano has yet to step foot back inside the cage. Instead, she has used the fame gained in mixed martial arts and worked her way to the silver screen. She plays the lead role in an upcoming Steven Soderbergh movie titled “Haywire,” starring alongside the likes of Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, and Antonio Banderas.
Strikeforce’s December event has yet to be officially announced, but a lightweight championship bout between title holder Gilbert Melendez and top contender Jorge Masvidal is expected to serve as the main event. An opponent for Carano has yet to be named.
