Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal Tests Positive for Anabolic Steroid

Lawal tests positive for banned substance

Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal tested positive for Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine earlier this month.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Director Keith Kizer delivered the news earlier today.

Lawal faced off against Lorenz Larkin on the main card of the Jan. 7 event, earning the knockout victory. The win was his second knockout in a row and his second since losing his belt to Rafael Cavalcante in August of 2010.

The former champion, who was tested alongside Keith Jardine, Luke Rockhold, Robbie Lawler, and 11 eleven others, was the only one to fail his test. He likely will face a one-year suspension, as well as a fine. Also, his win will be reversed to a no contest due to the positive test.

Lawal, according to MMA Junkie, plans to appeal the suspension, denying any wrongdoing.
