Ex-UFC Fighter War Machine Headed Back to Jail for Year

Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver

TUF 6 contestant was released in California in July

UFC veteran War Machine (formerly Jon Koppenhaver) is headed back to jail after just six months of freedom following his last stint.

War Machine last fought Roger Huerta in November in Texas, shocking the former Sports Illustrated cover fighter with a third-round technical knockout. The recent Bellator-signee went on a lengthy rant on his Twitter feed, explaining his disdain for “the system” and saying he will be back after another year behind bars.

After a slew of expletives, War Machine ended a Twitter message Thursday, stating simply, “Vacation time, back to jail in two weeks!”

“I’ve been out for over 6 months now and doing great and am finally back on my feet. Nevermind all my students that will miss me. Do another year and rot ‘n’ waste time. Make no money, pay no taxes. Whatever…”

The contestant on Season 6 of “The Ultimate Fighter” went 1-1 in the UFC. His third-round knockout of Jared Rollins at the TUF 6 Finale was a Fight of the Night winner.

But in 2007, he ran into trouble with the law in Las Vegas after an altercation and was given three years probation. In July 2010, he landed in jail in California for a felony assault conviction. After serving that sentence, he got back on the right track with his win over Huerta – which was quickly followed by his signing with Bellator.

War Machine was originally expected to take place in Bellator’s upcoming welterweight tournament. Though promotion officials have not yet commented on the fighter’s latest setback with the law, War Machine is not likely to be part of the eight-man field now.
