Torres claims second UFC release not related to social media use

Miguel Torres was released from the UFC for the second time, and rumors began circulating that he was cut the second time for the same reason as the first.

Of course, his first release from the promotion came about as a result of a Tweet deemed insensitive by Dana White, and by all accounts it was.

However, the former WEC champion says his second release was not caused by a social media mishap, as he joined Radio to discuss the situation, as well as the next chapter of his career.

“I thought it was kind of funny,” Torres said about the rumors. “That’s what people want to think, (but) I just know that I’m fighting for the World Series of Fighting.”

The World Series of Fighting may not sound familiar to most. Not yet, at least.

The promotion announced today that it would be moving into the Las Vegas MMA scene, beginning with a November 3 event. Torres will headline that event.

The longtime veteran, who boasts an incredible 40-5 record as a professional, has not fought since a first round knockout loss to Michael McDonald at UFC 145. He finished his Octagon career at 2-2.

Reports that Torres was cut due to more social media problems likely derived from the fact that, at 2-2, he hardly seemed in a must-win position. Furthermore, his last opponent, McDonald, is currently in the title picture in the UFC bantamweight division and has quickly become one of the promotion’s best prospects.
