News conference streams live from MGM Grand in Las Vegas
Literally the biggest fight card in UFC history takes place in two months when 10 heavyweights meet on the main card of UFC 146 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Junior dos Santos will defend his heavyweight title against Alistair Overeem and former champs Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir fight in a No. 1 contenders bout to face the dos Santos-Overeem winner. Plus, three other heavyweight bouts fill out the pay-per-view: Roy Nelson vs. Antonio Silva, Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Shane Del Rosario and Stefan Struve vs. Mark Hunt. It’s the first time in UFC history there have been five heavyweight fights on a main card.
“Our Memorial Day weekend events in Las Vegas are always big, but Junior dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem is one of the most exciting heavyweight fights ever,” UFC president Dana White said in a statement. “The all-heavyweight main card features five guys ranked in the top 10. This is the most heavyweights on a UFC card in history.”
On Tuesday, the UFC holds a special pre-fight press conference announcing the card and the on-sale date for tickets in the lobby of the MGM Grand. The event is free and open to the public at 11 a.m. in Las Vegas. But if you can’t be at the news conference in person, HeavyMMA will have it here streaming live starting at 2 p.m. Eastern. The news conference will feature White, dos Santos, Overeem, Velasquez, Mir, Nelson and Silva.
