Thiago Alves Injured, Out of UFC 107

A torn posterior cruciate ligament has forced UFC welterweight Thiago Alves to pull out of his UFC 107 bout with fellow contender Jon Fitch. That’s the word from Ariel Helwani of MMA Fanhouse, who posted the story this morning.

This is a bout plagued with injury issues. Fitch was originally scheduled to face Ricardo Almeida, who suffered a knee injury in training and was forced to pull out. Alves was booked against Paulo Thiago, but once the UFC realized that Fitch needed an opponent, they scrapped that bout and inserted Alves against Fitch.

The UFC would like to keep Fitch on the card, but an opponent has not been named at this time.

Currently scheduled UFC 107 main card bouts include:

  • BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez (lightweight title)
  • Cheick Kongo vs. Frank Mir
  • Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida
  • Jon Fitch vs. TBA
  • Todd Duffee vs. Paul Buentello
