Wanderlei Silva may not be the Axe Murderer of old, but it appears that his drop to middleweight may be enough to give his career a second wind. Silva barely edged Michael Bisping in an extremely close three-round decision to rebound from his loss to Rampage Jackson.
Silva scored the pivotal moment of the bout when he dropped Bisping with a right hand to the ear with ten seconds left in the fight. It appeared the fight would be stopped with seconds remaining, but the referee allowed the clock to run out. It was the moment that sealed the victory for Silva. Prior to the punch, both fighters waged a razor-thin battle with neither man gaining much of an advantage or doing a lot of damage.
An emotional Bisping thanked Silva after the bout, saying that he was disappointed in the result but thrilled to have been able to fight a legend.
