George Sotiropoulos needed the performance of a lifetime. The Aussie was the biggest native star on the UFC 110 card, put into a position for a star-making performance. Sotiropoulos delivered in style, roundly beating Joe Stevenson on the feet and on the ground in the best performance of his career on the way to a 30-27 unanimous decision.
Sotiropoulos outclassed Stevenson in grappling; the entire first round was basically a grappling competition, and Sotiropoulos showed oustanding reversals and a multi-faceted brand of jiu-jitsu that Stevenson had no answers for. Sotiropoulos nearly submitted Stevenson several times and utilized sweeps and reversals to dominate Stevenson, a fantastic grappler, throughout the fight.
The Aussie crowd exploded when the decision was announced. For Sotiropoulos, the future is bright. He moves up the lightweight rankings with the performance of his career.
