Throughout his 13-fight career, the Pennsylvania native has earned 11 victories, while only losing on two occasions. However, in his last appearance, Brenneman was defeated by Johnny Hendricks by technical knockout, losing his first fight with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The loss was disappointing, to say the least, but, over five months later, the show must go on for the man nicknamed “The Spaniard,” as he will meet Amilcar Alves at “UFC Fight Night: Fight For The Troops II” on January 22 in Fort Hood, Texas. And, even with the lengthy layoff, Brenneman says he is ready to perform in front of those that serve this country and get back on the winning track.
“I’m not concerned with the wait,” Brenneman told HeavyMMA’s Megan Olivi earlier this week. “I think Alves even fought 3 weeks after I did so were basically on the same page with that. I think of it as more of an advantage. You know, I literally started training 2 weeks after my last fight so we’re going on over 4 months of learning and training with the best guys.”
Alves, who also has an 11-2 record as a professional, was, like Brenneman, disappointed in his last fight. A unanimous decision loss to Mike Pierce spoiled the Brazilian’s debut with the promotion and ended an eight-fight winning streak.
While Alves is certainly looking back at what went wrong in his fight with Pierce, unsurprisingly, so is Brenneman, who believes learning from Pierce’s success in the fight will help him win his upcoming bout.
“Mike Pierce fought Alves perfectly, so we’re taking what we can from that fight,” said Brenneman. “I’m just gonna fight my style. I think last fight I got too caught up in, ‘I wanna be a standup guy.’ I’m gonna fight my fight and I’m going to implement my will.”
At the promotions second “Fight for the Troops” event, Brenneman has the opportunity to entertain the men and women who serve the United States of America on a daily basis and it is something he says he is really looking forward to.
The 170 lb. fighter says he is always looking for a way to give back to the people who fight for this country and feels that by putting on a good fight, he will entertain all those in attendance. But that is not the only reason he is looking forward to fighting in front of the troops. He also realizes that they are going to make a great crowd and will definitely bring the noise in Fort Hood on January 22.
“It’s pretty awesome,” Brenneman said about fighting in front of the troops. “For one, I’m always looking at a way to give back. And this is a perfect opportunity to directly entertain and give back to the military. And, on top of that, they’re going to be a really loud, rowdy and vocal crowd, which makes it fun too.”
