Swanson vs. Koch official for UFC 132

A featherweight bout between Cub Swanson and Erik Koch is going to happen after all.

UFC officials announced this week that the two 145 lb. fighters will meet at the UFC’s Fourth of July weekend show, UFC 132.

The two were originally supposed to meet at “UFC on Versus 3” last March, but an injury forced Swanson off the card, delaying his UFC debut. Koch, however, was given a new opponent at a new event, earning a knockout victory over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 128, which extended his winning streak to three.

Swanson, who was considered one of the more exciting fighters in the WEC, has not fought since a split-decision victory over Mackens Semerzier at WEC 52 last November. Prior to that contest, he was defeated by fast-rising featherweight Chad Mendes at WEC 50 last August.

“Rising star Erik Koch, who took home ‘Knockout of the Night’ at the stacked UFC 128 event, will take on Cub Swanson, who earned ‘Fight of the Night’ honors in his last outing,” UFC president Dana White said.

UFC 132 is set for July 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada and features a bantamweight championship between title-holder Dominick Cruz and top contender Urijah Faber. A welterweight rematch between B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch was originally expected to serve as a co-main event, but the American Kickboxing Academy fighter was forced to withdraw due to injury.
