Hawaiian heavyweight remains unbeaten
It wasn’t pretty—especially in the third—but Travis Browne earned an easy unanimous decision win over Rob Broughton.
Following his spectacular finish of Stefan Struve at UFC 130, Browne looked sharp early, but tired dramatically during the second. In the final frame, “Hapa” maintained positional control, landed a few shots, but mostly coasted home on the cards.
Broughton, a relative unknown coming off a win at UFC 120, took the best Browne had to offer and kept coming forward, showing a good chin and solid heart, but he was never able to land anything of consequence.
Browne moved fluidly in the opening round, mixing big swings with solid leg kicks, doing the same for portions of the second. The best flurry of the fight came in the second stanza, when Browne landed a collection of big shots on the Briton, but that’s where the action really ended.
It was a good, but underwhelming victory for Browne, not the type of follow-up performance he hoped for after his big victory in May. He remains unbeaten in his career, pushing his record to 12-0-1, 3-0-1 in the UFC, but will need to show more next time out when he’s likely to receive a step up in competition.
