Main Card Set For UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida

UFC 135 Denver - Jones VS. Rampage Weigh Ins 2-28Pay-per-view portion of second Toronto show confirmed

The UFC has made the main card for their second event in Canada’s largest city official.

Last week, the UFC announced that light heavyweight champion Jon Jones would defend his title in Toronto, but not against the man everyone expected. With Rashad Evans unable to make the December 10 event, former champion Lyoto Machida was tabbed to stand opposite the 24-year-old champion, his second consecutive fight in the home of the Maple Leafs.

In addition to the light heavyweight title bout, four other fights that had been previously announced were confirmed as part of the main card.

The co-main event will feature a rematch between Ultimate Fighter Season 8 coaches Frank Mir and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Their first encountered came at UFC 92 in December 2008, with Mir defeating Nogueira to claim the interim UFC heavyweight title. Mir enters the fight on a two fight winning streak, while the former Pride standout Nogueira returned from an 18-month hiatus to knockout Brendan Schaub at UFC 134 in August.

They will be joined on the UFC 140 fight card by Nogueira’s twin brother — Antonio Rogerio Nogueira — as the man known as “Little Nog” will square off with Tito Ortiz in light heavyweight action. Rounding out the main card are two bouts featuring Canadians, Rory MacDonald and Mark Hominick.

The surging welterweight prospect MacDonald will meet Brian Ebersole, while Hominick will face “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. Both MacDonald and Hominick competed at UFC 129 in April, the first UFC event held in the city. MacDonald scored an impressive victory over Nate Diaz, while Hominick came up short in his bid to take the UFC featherweight title away from Jose Aldo.

UFC 140 takes place Saturday, December 10 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
