Matthew Vaughn Directing X-Men: First Class

Well, they’ve finally picked a director for X-Men: First Class. After dragging out the potential options for a while now, Fox decided upon Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn, Cinematical reports. The film will be produced by Bryan Singer who directed the original three films. Vaughn has also directed Layer Cake and was scheduled to direct the third X-Men film but that went to Brett Ratner instead.

With a release date already scheduled (June 3rd, 2011), production will begin this summer despite the fact that no cast has been announced yet. The original rumor was that the story will follow the back story of mutants like Cyclops, Jean Gray, Beast and Storm but  Variety is now reporting that the film will focus on Charles Xavier and Magneto (Erik Lansherr) as they discover their powers.
