Slim Pickings

With all of the turmoil and strife going on around the world this week, there is one thing we can all take solace in; thankfully, after Sucker Punch opens this weekend, we will all be able to turn on our television sets once again without being bombarded with ads for this flick. Unfortunately, the pickings are slim for new releases at the cinema, with only one major title and one limited release to report on. Let’s get to it.

Hot Inmates With Machine Guns? Or Dysfunctional Family?

So, Sucker Punch. Let’s face it, it only takes one look at the trailer for this film for you to figure out if it is for you or not. Starring a cast of up and coming young actresses as inmates locked away in a mental asylum, this motley crew must fight their way through different fantasy worlds to find five items that will help them escape their captors. This is directed by Zack Snyder (300), who continues to make visually interesting, if not actual good movies. Next up we have Peep World, starring a great cast (Michael C. Hall, Sarah Silverman, Rainn Wilson) as members of a dealing with one of their own writing a memoir, revealing to the world their family’s secrets. Directed by the great Barry Blaustein (Beyond the Mat), this might be worth a shot.
