Lil Peep Cause of Death: How Did the Rapper Die?

Aspiring New York rapper and YouTube star Lil Peep, who was once called the “future of emo,” has died. The artist, who also developed fans through the use of Soundcloud, was only only 21-years-old.

His representative confirmed his death Rolling Stone. However, that leaves many distraught fans wondering: How did Lil Peep die?

The medical examiner now says that Lil Peep died of an accidental overdose of Fentanyl and Xanax. “Mixing these two drugs can result in fatal side effects, as well as respiratory issues and coma,” reported EOnline. Drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.

Before the official cause of death was released, but his music manager said he was taken to the hospital for a suspected overdose. Police confirmed that’s the likely cause of death of Lil Pep, who was found dead in his tour bus.

“After speaking with people on scene and going into the tour bus, (police) said that there was evidence of a possible drug overdose, most likely from Xanax,” Tucson, Arizona police Sgt. Pete Dugan told CNN. “Obviously, we’re not medical examiners, so there will be an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death,” Dugan added to the network, adding that there was “no sign of any kind of foul play” and police are “treating it as a suspicious death case, most likely from an overdose.”

The news broke of Lil Peep’s death on November 16, and his representative told the music magazine that he died the night before. Rolling Stone described Lil Peep as a “mixed guitar-driven emo and rap production on mixtapes that gained millions of plays on SoundCloud.”

Troubling reports of his last moments circulated. Lil Peep, whose real name was Gustav Åhr,”grew up in Long Beach, New York,” according to The Guardian, which reported that Lil Peep “was reportedly taken to hospital following an overdose, according to music manager Adam Grandmaison. In a video Åhr posted online hours before his death, he said he had taken prescription drugs and other substances, saying: ‘I’m good, I’m not sick.'” According to Daily Variety, “Peep posted an Instagram video on Wednesday in which he said he was ‘lit’ after taking ‘six Xanax.'”

He wrote on Instagram one day before his death with the above video, “I just wana be everybody’s everything I want too much from people but then I don’t want anything from them at the same time u feel me I don’t let people help me but I need help but not when I have my pills but that’s temporary one day maybe I won’t die young and I’ll be happy? What is happy I always have happiness for like 10 seconds and then it’s gone. I’m getting so tired of this.”

That wasn’t the only video to circulate. On social media, a very disturbing and graphic video also circulated that purported to show Lil Peep dead, but its accuracy was not confirmed. TMZ reported that Lil Peep’s body was found on his tour bus. He “has died of a suspected overdose on his tour bus … according to multiple reports,” TMZ reported. “Lil Peep’s body was reportedly found on the bus during a stop Wednesday in Arizona. He had posted a photo earlier in the day with what appear to be prescription pills in his mouth and the caption, ‘fucc it.'” Just hours before he died, according to The Independent, “he posted a picture on Instagram that appeared to show him taking two pills. In a post a previous day, he wrote: ‘When I die you’ll love me.'”

As word of Lil Peep’s untimely death spread on social media, other rappers began offering tributes to him. Lil Peep “had so much more to do man he was constantly inspiring me”, wrote Diplo. Producer Marshmello wrote: “Peep was the nicest person. Hanging out with him, talking to him about music, the song ideas we were going to do together and touring was so amazing.”

Fans also offered tributes to the You Tube star who had just dropped a full-length album. Billboard called him “an emerging singer, rapper and YouTube star whose debut full-length album dropped in recent months.” According to Billboard, he “enjoyed full traction through his YouTube channel where his videos to ‘Awful Things,’ ‘Benz Truck,’ ‘The Brightside’ and others,” which were viewed by millions of people. Friends of Lil Peep had long feared something like this could happen. Lil Peep’s manager Chase Ortega confirmed the death on Twitter, writing, “I’ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother f*ck.”

The rapper was known for singing about gritty subjects like drugs and depression. According to The Independent, he said he was addicted to cocaine, ecstasy and Xanax, tweeting, “I am a depressed drug addict and I’m nearing my breaking point. Everything I love is disappearing.”

Sarah Stennett, the CEO of First Access Entertainment, said, according to The Guardian: “I am shocked and heartbroken. I do not believe Peep wanted to die, this is so tragic. He had huge ambition and his career was flourishing […] I have spoken to his mother and she asked me to convey that she is very, very proud of him and everything he was able to achieve in his short life.”
