James Holmes made his appearance in court today, and the world got its first true glimpse at the Theater Shooting killer. Holmes had been kept in solitary confinement since his arrest late last Thursday night. He appeared with his notorious dyed red hair, seeming despondent strung-out through most of the court proceedings. Holmes would shift his demeanor constantly as the court proceedings carried on, alternating between completely vapid and vacant expressions to downcast and on the verge of tears.
However, the most horrifying moments came when James Holmes would “bug” out his eyes wider and wider in a look of inspired terror. Was he reliving his heinous actions in Aurora? Was he finally realizing the gravity of the situation? It would make sense since it is very likely that he will face the death penalty. These questions are left unanswered for now.
