Man Loses Fingers in Freak Accident, Found in Trout Stomach

Priest Lake, Idaho

A human finger found inside a Trout’s stomach on Priest Lake in Idaho has been traced back to a man who lost them on the lake while wakeboarding a few months earlier in June.

Fisherman Nolan Calvin found more than he expected when he cleaned the trout he caught on Sept. 11. Detectives were able to fingerprint the severed finger and matched it to Haans Galassi of Washington.

‘‘The sheriff called me and told me he had a strange story to tell me,’’ Galassi said Tuesday. ‘‘He said that a fisherman was out on Priest Lake, and I pretty much knew exactly what he was going to say at that point. I was like: Let me guess, they found my fingers in a fish.”

Galassi lost four of his fingers on a camping trip at Priest Lake when he decided to go wakeboarding and his hand got caught in the towline. Before he knew it, the line became too tight and his fingers were gone.

The sheriff’s office actually offered Galassi his finger back, but he politely declined. Who knows where the other three fingers will show up!
