Rapist Wants Visitation Rights for Child of 14-Year-Old Victim

Man Seeks Visitation Rights After Raping 14-Year-Old Girl

It’s alarming enough that a man thinks he deserves the right to see the child he spawned by raping a 14-year-old girl, but more so that the legal system is even humoring the case. In fact, according to the Atlantic Wire, 31 states allow rapists custody and visitation rights. Huh? As if the poor teenage girl hasn’t gone through enough, now she may have to let the monster see her child regularly?

The girl was raped by the 20-year-old family friend who they knew from their church three years ago and decided to keep the baby that resulted. The teen mother still suffers from anxiety and depression since the incident and says he is only showing interest now that the child support bill is coming due, reports MyFoxBoston.com. The man pleaded guilty to statutory rape in Norfolk Superior Court last year and received 16 years of probation just as long as he acknowledged that he was the father. Forget fatherhood, just throw the guy in jail!

The family is fighting back and hired attorney Wendy Murphy who believes the problem came from the sentence, says MyFoxBoston.com.

“The consequences of sentencing this man to probation for 16 years, which is really until the child becomes an adult, and making him declare paternity and pay child support, includes that this guy gets a legal father-child relationship out of the deal,” Murphy told the station.

The family just wants to get this man out of their life for good, but apparently that’s too much to ask. If this guy wins the case, I may lose my faith in the legal system.
