The director says he chose the location to shoot the movie because he didn’t want to invade Newtown so soon after the tragedy, and Ridgefield has the same look and feel as the small Connecticut town.
The only problem is Bucari hasn’t asked the town for permission, and town leaders hate the idea. First Selectman Rudy Marconi said:
I will do everything in my power to prevent this. It’s a bad idea. If you were to poll the residents in town, they’d be overwhelmingly against it.
But the director said in a Facebook post that the film isn’t about Sandy Hook Elementary:
We are not making a movie about what happened in Newtown and never will do so.
The movie is instead about a teenager with a mental illness and the “ever-growing fear” of his parents in the wake of the December 14 shooting. Yeah, I’m pretty sure that counts as being about what happened in Newtown.
Either way, the director must go through a process to film in Ridgefield, starting with applying for a permit. Good luck Bucari–making this film won’t be easy.
