RCMP say they’ve arrested two men after a 74-year-old Walmart greeter was pepper-sprayed in the face at an Edmonton-area store on Tuesday.
Police said the elderly woman was working at the Spruce Grove, Alberta store when she heard the anti-theft alarm go off, and asked a man to show her his receipt. He then attacked her with the pepper spray.
“The greeter asked them to see their receipt,” RCMP Cpl. Collette Zazulak told CBC News. “The one male swore at her and sprayed her in the face with pepper spray.”
When shoppers saw what happened they took down the men’s license plate number, and police were later able to track them down.
The RCMP has charged Faron Cardinal, 32, with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and theft under $5,000. Also charged with theft under $5,000 is Loyd Giroux, 24, of Fort Smith, N.W.T. The men reportedly were trying to steal a vehicle battery and sub-woofer speaker.
The worker is now recovering at home. Both men are due back in court later this month.
