WATCH: Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield Performs ‘Space Oddity’ in Space

Is this the first music video shot in space?

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield had racked up quite the Twitter following for his Twitpics of our little blue dot while floating around in the International Space Station, and now he’s putting out awesome music videos. Chris performs a stellar cover of David Bowie’s 1969 single “Space Oddity” about the fictional astronaut Major Tom.

The music video marks a final farewell from space as Chris handed over control of the space station to Russian cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov, before returning to Earth today. It’s without a doubt one of the coolest videos to ever grace YouTube and has already racked up a million views in barley 24 hours. Playing an accoustic guitar, Chris takes the liberty to modify the lyrics a bit with “Ground control to Major Tom, lock your Soyuz hatch and put your helmet on” a reference to his landing destination of Kazakhstan.

Godspeed Major Hadfield.
