The FBI’s Underwater Search & Evidence Response Team and the Philadelphia Police are combing through the waters of the Schuylkill River. No one is sure why the authorities have begun searching in the area, reports NBC Philadelphia.

Here’s what you need to know…

1. Police Are Looking Through the River, River Banks, and Surrounding Sidewalks

FBI spokeswoman, Carrie Adamowski has confirmed that the FBI has mobilized an underwater search and response team. Land-based agents are also searching the river banks and sidewalk near Kelly Drive, under the Falls Bridge.


2. Crews Began The Search Around 9 a.m.

Adamowski confirmed that crew entered the water and began their search of the area surrounding the Falls Bridge around 9 a.m.


3. A Tent Filled With Agents Has Added to the Mystery

FBI investigators have been seen using a large tent set up over part of the sidewalk. It appears it is being used to house possible evidence recovered on the scene. Agents have also been seen emerging from the water and communicating with agents within the tent.


4. There Has Been No Comment On Purpose

As speculation rises, Adamowski would not comment on the purpose of the search.


5. Philidelphia PD are Providing Security

As the FBI agents search and comb the scene, the Philidephia police department has been tasked with providing security for the federal agents.
